About AdeCode
August 10th, 2008
AdeCode is the Actionscript code repository of me, Ade Rowbotham. I set it up as a place to share some of my Flash creations and their source code.
I’ve been working with Flash since the start of 2000, and created Flashteroids in 2002 shortly before moving to London to work as a web designer. Since then a lot has changed: as I became more experienced my job morphed from ‘web designer’ into ‘working in advertising’.I worked for a couple of big London Agencies. Flash got more and more sophisticated, yet the more senior I got at work the less time I spent writing code and the more time I spent in meetings.
This was both good and bad. I learnt a lot about the business but started to fall behind with the technology.
In July 2007 I left my job as Creative Lead at Dare to work for myself. Since then I’ve caught up a lot. As I write this I’ve just made the transition from working in Flash CS3 to developing in AS3 with Eclipse and FDT.
But over the years I’ve written a lot of cool functionality. At present most of it resides on my archive drive in old Flash MX files, AS2 include files and such – what you might call horrible old code. Horrible it may be by today’s standards, but that’s just the syntax. The thinking behind it is just as valid today as it was then.
I plan to revive some of that work, extract it from its hardcoded single-use environments, and bring it up to date as a set of modular applications.
I hope you find some of it useful.

Been on the same upgrade path myself, I’ve been using Flex Builder with FDT, but otherwise the same set-up. Looking forward to following your experiences.
